It is important to remember St Mary’s Cathedral is a place of worship. Please remember to treat the place with respect whilst you are here. Mobile phones should not be used whilst you are in the Cathedral. Gentlemen’s hats should be removed and no food or beverages are to be taken in or consumed on the Cathedral grounds. You should always talk in hushed tones so as to not disturb parishioners and worshipers.
We do allow photos to be taken inside the Cathedral however not during liturgical celebrations and Masses. If you are using a camera do not be too intrusive with it and do not use a flash.
As this is a place of worship please, ensure that you are wearing suitable clothing – no short skirts or bare feet and please cover your shoulders. Hats should be removed before entering the Cathedral.
There is no entrance fee to the Cathedral. Entry to St Mary’s Cathedral is free and open to the public. However a donation towards the upkeep and cleaning of the Cathedral is greatly appreciated.
Please note the Cathedral Crypt is currently closed to the public.
St Mary’s Cathedral is open every day of the week from 6:30am to 6:30pm (Mon-Fri); 6:30am to 7pm (Sat-Sun). Extended hours may be introduced during daylight savings and Christmas periods.
St Mary’s Cathedral offers free guided tours every Sunday at 2pm. This tour meets at the Cathedral Shop internal entrance, wheel chair is available to the Main Cathedral. Registration is required by emailing [email protected] by Midday on Friday of the week before the intended tour. Walk-ins are still accepted at the discretion of the Tour Guide.
We can also organise guided group tours during the weekdays only and for a small booking fee. Please email [email protected] or call 02 9220 0453 to check on date and time availability.
St Mary’s Cathedral is renowned for its high standard of music and Choir. The Choir of St Mary’s Cathedral is internationally recognised as one of the best choirs in the world and is asked to tour regularly.
They are famous for their weekly celebrations of the Divine Office and Solemn Mass. You are more than welcome to join in at Mass and listen to them sing.

Sydney, just across the road from Hyde Park.
No parking is available on site
Closest public parking sites are available at:
Domain Car Park. Entry via St. Mary’s Road Sydney NSW (opposite Cathedral House)
Enacon Parking. Entry via 4 College Street, Sydney NSW (behind Cathedral House, underneath the Cathedral steps)
There is metered parking available on streets near the Museum end of College Street.
The nearest train stations are St James, Museum and Town Hall. Each are of equal distance to us and are an easy seven-minute walk.
For bus services arriving in the city centre. Alight near Hyde Park or Town Hall and simply walk east along Park Street towards Kings Cross – a 7 to 10 minute walk.

St Mary’s Cathedral is a major destination for Parishioners, visiting Catholics and tourist visitors to Sydney.
We attract and welcome more than 3,000 visitors and tourists on a daily basis so we have an impact on the fabric of this city. St Mary’s Cathedral is an important sightseeing destination for tourists and its location, just across Hyde Park from the CBD, makes it easily accessible for visitors wishing to view this magnificent English-style gothic church building with its proud history.
St Mary’s Cathedral offers a free guided tour every Sunday at 2pm. You can secure a space for this tour by emailing: [email protected], before 12 noon on the Thursday before the requested tour date.
We can also organise guided group tours during the weekdays for a small booking fee. Bookings are to be made in advance due to the Cathedral’s busy schedule. The breathtakingly beautiful Crypt with its magnificent terrazzo floor, considered to be one of the finest mosaic floors in the world, is a highlight of the tour.
